History of Psalms 119

It was written by David, Some say to teach his children the alphabet. It is the longest chapter in the bible. It is broken down into the 22 letters of the hebrew alphabet; each section contains 8 verses. In reading the psalm we should highlight the respect David had for Gods word. This is no accident. I don't believe davids writings would have ever been made scripture without the love of God's word.

Psalm 119 has also been called a song. I think it is important that songs make things easier to commit to memory so I believe there was an initial intention to set these to music. Over 10 well known songs have been written from the words of Ps 119.
