Mark 4:1-20Loading...

February 10, 2013

This parable is found in three of the four Gospels and holds the distinction of being the first parable ever given by Christ. The significance of this cannot be overstated, as it establishes the foundation for understanding all of Jesus' subsequent teachings through parables.

In fact, we must pay careful attention to verse 13 of our text. Jesus Himself asks a penetrating question: if you can't understand this parable, how will you comprehend all the ones to come? This indicates that the Parable of the Sower serves as a master key to unlock the spiritual truths contained in Christ's other parables. It reveals the various responses people have to God's Word and helps us understand why some receive the gospel while others reject it.

“Buy the truth, and sell it not”
— Proverbs 23:23
