It is amazing to me that we help people in foreign lands but can't use the name "Red Cross" because it is offensive, so it must be known as "Red Crescent." We give money because of the Cross but can't give the glory to the One that hung there. This illustrates perfectly how even the most charitable acts become controversial when they bear the name of Christ. The very symbol that represents sacrifice and love for humanity has become offensive to some, yet the benefits and blessings that flow from that sacrifice are still eagerly received.
In this morning's reading we find Christ doing a terrible thing - at least according to His critics. He was healing on the Sabbath. Here we see the heart of religious opposition to genuine good works....
