One Flesh
Genesis 2:24
“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
This morning I want to preach about something that our culture has twisted, that the world has perverted, and that even the church sometimes misunderstands—the biblical teaching of “one flesh” in marriage.
When God created marriage, He had a specific design in mind. He said that a man and his wife would become “one flesh.” This isn’t just poetic language—it’s a profound spiritual, emotional, and physical reality that God intended for every married couple.
But before we dive into what “one flesh” means, I need to address something that has plagued fundamentalist Christianity for too long. There’s a problem in some Baptist churches where women are put down and somewhat degraded. Some preachers use certain verses in the Bible and say that women are less than men.
