TENDER AND ONLY BELOVED

Proverbs 4:3 "For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother."

We are continuing our study through the book of Proverbs this Christmas season, and I want to pause on this verse because it paints a beautiful picture that goes far beyond Solomon's childhood.

Solomon is remembering his upbringing. He's telling us about the wisdom his father David passed down to him. But as I studied this verse, I saw three perspectives—three layers of truth that all connect to what we celebrate at Christmas.

We see Solomon, the son of David and Bathsheba. We see Jesus, the Son of God born to Mary. And we see ourselves, children of God nurtured by the church.

“Buy the truth, and sell it not”
— Proverbs 23:23
