Meekness: Lesson 9
Text: 1 Peter 3:4
Beloved, as we begin [this year], many of you have made resolutions and commitments for improvement in your walk with the Lord. You've perhaps determined to read your Bible more faithfully, to pray with greater earnestness, or to witness more boldly. These are noble pursuits, but this morning I want to speak to you about something that may seem less dramatic but is no less important—the cultivation of a meek and quiet spirit.
In our noisy, demanding world, where everyone seems to be clamoring for attention and asserting their rights, the concept of meekness appears outdated and weak. But I submit to you this morning that meekness is not weakness—it is strength under control. It is the bridle on the powerful horse, the governor on the mighty engine. And when we possess this meek and quiet spirit, we discover personal benefits that the world cannot offer and circumstances cannot take away.
“Buy the truth, and sell it not”— Proverbs 23:23
