As we gather today for Thanksgiving, we're reminded of life's fragility and uncertainty. Tomorrow morning I will be attending a memorial service for a friend of mine who was 10 years my junior. From there I will go to a viewing for a dear friend's daughter who was 30 years my junior. These sobering realities force us to examine what truly matters and what deserves our gratitude.
And what is my biggest problem this morning? What troubles occupy my thoughts? Perhaps it's something as trivial as a football game. What are your biggest concerns today? Often we find ourselves consumed with temporary worries while missing the eternal reasons for thanksgiving.
